## Description

MIAGI (Music is a Great Investment) is a South African nonprofit organization established in 2001 to invest in people and communities through music. It views music as a way to build emotional strength, connect across cultural boundaries, and support healthier, more sustainable societies. Founded and managed by Robert Brooks and Ingrid Hedlund, MIAGI works in South Africa and fosters international collaboration.

Its activities include operating and developing the Morris Isaacson Centre for Music in Soweto, supporting music initiatives, institutions, ensembles, and talented individuals, and extending music-based early childhood development and community programs. Through the MIAGI Orchestra, young musicians receive opportunities to learn from tutors and conductors and perform at major venues and festivals. Orchestra members participate free of charge, with travel, accommodation, subsistence, and stipends provided for major projects and tours. MIAGI also educates emerging composers and arrangers, commissions their work, and helps musicians and ensembles develop as cultural entrepreneurs. Its trainee program and other initiatives create employment opportunities for aspiring artists.
