## Description

MIAR (Movimento de Intervenção em Animais de Rua) is a nonprofit animal protection and environmental association based in Oeiras, Portugal. Legally established in 2019, it works nationally to improve conditions for animals living on the streets and to encourage a more informed, compassionate relationship between communities and urban animal colonies.

MIAR focuses particularly on stray cats, promoting humane catch, neuter and return (CED) programmes, and supporting animals with food and health care. It also works to help them gain acceptance within their communities and raises awareness about abandonment, abuse, neglect and peaceful coexistence. The association highlights the challenges faced by both cat colonies and unprotected groups of stray dogs.

MIAR has no shelter and relies on temporary foster families to care for animals. Its community can get involved by fostering, volunteering, becoming a member, adopting or donating. Volunteers support the association’s animal welfare and environmental work, while donations contribute directly to the animals it rescues.
