## Description

MidEastMed is a pioneering research initiative funded by the European Research Council and led by Prof. Liat Kozma at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. This project aims to construct a comprehensive history of medicine in the Middle East and North Africa, spanning the years 1830 to 1960, and offering a transnational perspective. By examining the interplay of global influences, local specificities, and historical changes, MidEastMed endeavors to shed light on medical practices, disease transmission, and public health policies shaped by both colonial and national contexts. 

The project involves extensive research, utilizing archival and published materials in several languages, including Arabic, French, and English. It focuses on five key areas: global disease transmission, international health conventions, regional health challenges, colonial influences, and the contributions of medical professionals to various national movements. Additionally, the MidEastMed database serves as a vital resource for historians, documenting thousands of professionals, institutions, and communities within the region, thus enhancing our understanding of the modern Middle East and North Africa's medical landscape.
