## Description

The Midhurst Society is a local heritage organisation for people interested in the history of Midhurst and the surrounding villages. It works to preserve, protect and improve awareness of the area’s historic character, sharing its research with residents and visitors. Midhurst was first recorded as a town in the twelfth century, while evidence of earlier human activity includes Bronze Age barrows on nearby commons.

The Society brings local history to life through talks, exhibitions, research and publications. Its activities and resources cover subjects such as Midhurst Common, St Ann’s Hill, the South Pond, the Wharf, listed buildings and significant events and people connected with the area. It also produces the Midhurst Journal and other local history publications, leaflets, maps and walking materials, including a town trail. The Society collaborates with other local groups and offers opportunities to explore community memories through projects, interviews and historical archives. With a broad programme of historical topics and resources, it helps people discover the stories and heritage of Midhurst and nearby communities.
