## Description

Missing Maps is an open, collaborative humanitarian mapping project that brings organizations, volunteers, and local communities together to improve map coverage in places affected by disaster risk and crises. Using satellite imagery and OpenStreetMap, remote volunteers trace buildings and roads, while community members add local knowledge such as neighbourhood boundaries, street names, and evacuation centres. Humanitarian organizations and communities can then use this information to support risk reduction, preparedness, and disaster response.

The project offers several ways to participate, including remote mapping through the HOT Tasking Manager and MapSwipe, field mapping, and in-person mapathons. Its website provides current mapping campaigns, training materials, event listings, guidance for hosting events, statistics, and a blog featuring project updates and examples of mapping in action. New mappers can learn through mapathons or begin independently using the available tools. Missing Maps is a collective of organizations that develops and uses open mapping approaches to support communities worldwide, with OpenStreetMap serving as a key platform for its volunteer-generated map data.
