## Description

Mission Blue is an ocean conservation organization founded by renowned oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle after her 2009 TED Prize-winning call to create a global network of protected ocean places. Guided by science and local leadership, the organization works to make ocean protection the global default and safeguard the ocean as Earth’s life support system.

At the heart of its work are Hope Spots: ecologically important marine areas championed by local leaders and grounded in science. Mission Blue connects these Champions with scientists, communities, partners, and decision-makers to advance conservation and restoration. Its network spans more than 170 Hope Spots across 119 countries and territories, and includes a community-led marine conservation program.

Mission Blue supports this work through scientific research and innovation, policy advocacy, expeditions, and public storytelling. It also offers ways for individuals and organizations to get involved, including donating, becoming a Blue Circle member, nominating a Hope Spot, or forming a partnership.
