## Description

The Mountain Guide Association of Nepal (MoGAN) is an organization representing Nepalese mountain guides and supporting the development of mountaineering and sustainable mountain tourism in Nepal. Recognizing a guiding profession that dates back to 1891, MoGAN works to strengthen guides’ skills, safety knowledge, and professional standards. Its training and assessment programs cover GPS and navigation, first aid, oxygen use, occupational health and safety, Leave No Trace practices, and relevant rules and regulations. The association also promotes responsible climbing through rope fixing, trail construction and repair, and the management of waste on trails and at campsites. MoGAN supports rescue efforts for people affected by mountain incidents, including guides, porters, and Nepalese climbers. In addition, it organizes promotional events, explores peaks to encourage tourism, and provides policy suggestions on issues such as worker welfare, environmental protection, disaster preparedness, and ethical tourism. Through these activities, MoGAN aims to improve expedition safety while promoting Nepal’s mountain communities and landscapes.
