About
Description
MonoGame is an open-source implementation of the Microsoft XNA 4 Framework. It is designed to empower XNA developers on Xbox 360, Windows, and Windows Phone by allowing them to easily port their games to various platforms including iOS, Android, Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows 8/10. Additionally, MonoGame supports PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
The project was initiated in 2009 by Josรฉ Antonio Leal de Farias, who started an open source project called XNA Touch aimed at porting simple 2D XNA games to mobile devices. Over time, the project evolved and in 2011 it was renamed MonoGame and moved to GitHub. The addition of new platforms such as Android, Mac, Linux, and OpenGL on Windows followed.
In 2012, MonoGame introduced support for DirectX 11 backend and Windows 8, allowing XNA games to be ported to the Windows Store. This resulted in Microsoft Studios publishing several titles using MonoGame in 2013. The project leadership was later taken over by Tom Spilman and Steve Williams.
With a dedicated team of developers, evangelists, and contacts available for support, MonoGame continues to provide a strong platform for developers to expand their reach and bring their games to a wide range of devices
