## Description

Monte Rosa SkyMarathon is an alpine running event rooted in the origins of skyrunning in Alagna Valsesia, Italy. First established in the early 1990s, it was revived in 2018 to continue the tradition of racing high on Monte Rosa, among the Italian Alps’ glaciers, snowfields and moraines. The event brings together athletes seeking demanding high-altitude challenges, with every race climbing above 3,000 metres.

The 2026 programme features four competitions. The flagship Monte Rosa SkyMarathon covers 35 kilometres and 7,000 metres of combined ascent and descent, reaching 4,554 metres. The Monte Rosa SkySummit is an uphill-only challenge, while the Monte Rosa SkyRace offers a solo format over 25 kilometres, with 5,000 metres of ascent to Rifugio Gnifetti at 3,647 metres. The AMA VK2 completes the programme as a double Vertical Kilometer®. For the SkyMarathon and SkySummit, athletes compete in pairs connected by a rope for safety. Organised by AMA ASD, the event combines a pioneering sporting legacy with a distinctive test of endurance and mountain skill.
