## Description

The Moon Reading Group, also known as Saban Books LLC, is a Detroit-based, Black-owned literacy organization that encourages children to develop a love of reading. Founded around the belief that books can make reading fun, the organization offers science-inspired stories and promotes literacy and its history for boys and girls. Its work also emphasizes representation, with books by Black authors intended to support children’s self-esteem and confidence.

The catalog includes children’s titles about spiders, bugs, butterflies, and a hungry king cobra, as well as Welcome Baby Now Let’s Read, a book for newborns. Books are available individually and in bundles, with listed prices ranging from $15 to $22. The Moon Reading Group also hosts monthly spider and bug readings and offers storytime sessions in Lathrup Village. Families can contact the organization to request a session and share their preferred date, time, and child’s details. Its stated service areas include Lathrup Village, Southfield, Detroit, and surrounding communities. The organization is led by author and literacy advocate K. Yasin Moon-Smith.
