## Description

The Morton Theatre is a historic performing arts venue in downtown Athens, Georgia. Founded in 1910 as a vaudeville theatre built, owned, and operated by African Americans, it preserves an important part of the city’s cultural history while welcoming contemporary audiences and event producers. The theatre is a facility of the Arts Division of the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s Leisure Services Department, with support from the Morton Theatre Corporation, a nonprofit organization.

Visitors can attend a varied program of performances and community events, including plays, concerts, comedy, dance, film festivals, lectures, and public ceremonies. The venue also hosts productions by local arts organizations and offers school matinees and other public performances. For organizers, the Morton provides event rental spaces, with information on available rooms, technical specifications, rental procedures, and scheduling. Its facilities have served weddings and many other special occasions.

The theatre offers ticket purchasing, box office and visitor information, and a gift shop featuring items such as building ornaments, local artwork, photographs, and notecards.
