## Description

The Minneapolis Aquatennial is the city’s official civic celebration, bringing residents and visitors together for nine days of summer events on Minneapolis lakes, along the Mississippi River and across downtown. Celebrated since 1940, the festival features dozens of activities, nearly all free, family-friendly and open to the public. Its signature program includes the Torchlight Parade, with illuminated floats, marching bands and dance teams; the Milk Carton Boat Races at Bde Maka Ska; a model sailboat display at Government Plaza; and a River Rats waterski show on the Mississippi. The Aquatennial also offers opportunities for local organizations to list eligible summer activities as official Partner Events, while volunteers can help with parade duties, beach crews, information tents and event setup. Parade participants, including bands, dance teams and float builders, may request an entry packet. The celebration is produced by the volunteer-led Aquatennial Ambassador Organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Minneapolis businesses and institutions support the festival through sponsorships, helping keep its events accessible to the community.
