## Description

The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) is a valuable initiative designed to help consumers effectively reduce unsolicited advertising mail. Established in 1983 and supported by the Royal Mail and the Information Commissioner's Office, MPS empowers individuals to manage their direct mail preferences, ensuring that their names and addresses are removed from marketing lists used by participating companies, particularly those associated with the Data & Marketing Association (DMA).

MPS offers free registration, allowing users to significantly cut down on unwanted mail, although it does not eliminate overseas correspondence or unaddressed items. For parents, the Baby MPS extends this service, providing a tailored solution for reducing baby-related marketing.

Once registered, users enjoy lasting benefits with no need for renewal, although it may take up to three months for the full impact to be realized. Direct communication with non-DMA member companies may still be necessary to stop mail from specific sources. Overall, MPS promotes a customer-focused approach, championing responsible marketing practices that benefit both consumers and businesses.
