## Description

**Medieval Unicode Font Initiative (MUFI)** is a pioneering non-profit organization focused on addressing the specific encoding needs of medieval scholars who require access to unique characters in medieval Latin texts. Established in July 2001, MUFI comprises a collaborative workgroup of scholars and font designers dedicated to enhancing the use of Unicode for the accurate display of these special characters. The initiative aims to fill the gaps in character representation by proposing essential medieval characters to Unicode and coordinating their allocation within the Private Use Area.

MUFI's efforts have resulted in the development of various resources, including detailed charts and proposals, aimed at improving the accessibility and usability of medieval texts in digital formats. The organization is committed to fostering a consensus among medievalists on the application of Unicode standards. Through its meetings and ongoing projects, MUFI continues to support researchers and enthusiasts in preserving and presenting medieval heritage effectively in the digital age.
