- **Primary alias:** `museum.de`

## Description

Its aim is to provide a convenient location on the internet for museums, culture enthusiasts, and museum lovers from around the world. The platform consolidates museum offerings, allowing them to be easily accessed by a wide audience through the website https://www.museum.de. The museum content is curated exclusively by qualified museum staff. Visitors can explore the latest museum entries on the homepage to find inspiration for their next museum visit, or they can search for specific museums using the Profile section to find brief descriptions and address details. Moreover, museums can showcase their attractive offerings through news, events, image galleries, and audio guides. To ensure accessibility, museum.de also developed a smartphone app for Android and iOS platforms where visitors can access all relevant information on the go. In addition to the digital platform, museum.de publishes a quarterly print magazine, MAGAZIN MUSEUM.DE, which highlights national and international museums and cultural institutions with captivating visuals, enticing readers to visit them. The museum guide app was expanded in 2015 to include an audio guide feature. Museums no longer need traditional audio guide devices; instead, they upload their audio tracks, including images and texts, directly to museum.de. These audio guides can be accessed anytime, anywhere through the app. Visitors can download the complete audio guide via Wi-Fi before their museum visit to save on mobile data. Inside the museum, the audio guide can be automatically triggered using iBeacons, small Bluetooth transmitters discreetly placed throughout the museum, or QR codes. In the outdoor area, audio tracks can be started using GPS. Traditional numbering, QR codes, and station lists are also available for selection. The app's integrated map allows visitors to pinpoint and select points of interest, bringing the history of entire regions to life. To facilitate networking and knowledge exchange, museum.de organizes the MUSEUMSTREFFEN, a regular event held in various museums where museum staff and culture enthusiasts come together. Since 2017, museum.de has been conducting a survey in collaboration with Deutsche Bahn to assess the accessibility of museums. The comprehensive database provides a regularly updated overview of museums and cultural institutions equipped with accessibility features. The data can be downloaded as a PDF. Since 2017, museum.de has also had its own stand at the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in Berlin. At the MUSEUMSWELT stand, museums from different countries present their offerings to interested cultural travelers. Museum staff dressed in costumes explain the exhibits, and original museum artifacts, such as the FIFA World Cup trophy from 2014 exhibited at the Deutsches Fußball Museum Dortmund, enhance the display. In 2022, museum.de introduced the Museum Quiz, offering museums and cultural institutions the opportunity to engage visitors through interactive quizzes. The quizzes take visitors on a journey through the exhibition in a playful manner using multiple-choice questions. Schools can participate in Museum Quizzes with entire classes. In 2023, museum.de released its first virtual museum tours, enriching the imparting of knowledge in museums with information, videos, audio tracks, and quizzes. Experience the world of museums with museum.de, your comprehensive online guide to cultural exploration.
