About

Description

The Museum of Broadcast Communications (MBC) connects you to the past, present, and future of media. As a consumer or creator in this vast and powerful empire, MBC offers context to all facets of media, from the technology that drives it to the talent that enriches it, both on air and behind the scenes. They provide an educational framework for the public, teachers, and parents to help create a more media literate society.

MBC also strives to ensure that broadcast media represents diverse voices and perspectives. Founded in 1982 by broadcaster Bruce DuMont, MBC's mission is to preserve and display the archives and legacy of radio and television stations that lacked the space or resources to save their materials. The museum first opened its doors in June 1987 at River City in the South Loop and later moved to a more central location at the Chicago Cultural Center in June 1992.

Currently located at 360 N State Street in Chicago, MBC is seeking a new location to open in 2025 in collaboration with a local university. The Museum of Broadcast Communications is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, education, and celebration of media history
