The Museum of Us is a cultural anthropology museum dedicated to decolonizing initiatives. Open Wednesday-Sunday from 10 a.m. Guided by four guiding principles, their decolonizing initiatives aim to acknowledge and address the museum's historical participation in the colonial enterprise. These principles include truth-telling and accountability, rethinking ownership, organizational culture shift supported by systems and policy, and prioritizing indigenous representation. The museum aims to repatriate and steward cultural objects and ancestral human remains under the consent and guidance of associated communities, recognizing indigenous sovereignty and intellectual property rights. With a commitment to diversifying decision-making and representation, the Museum of Us strives to integrate Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) voices at all levels. The museum is currently engaged in implementing a strategic plan to ensure that their work is sustainable and authentic, and they are focused on working closely with the Kumeyaay Nation, their homeland community.
