## Description

The Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) provides mountain weather forecasts designed to support safer decisions in the UK’s upland areas. Its forecasts cover ten regions across Scotland, England and Wales, including the Highlands, Cairngorms, Lake District, Peak District and Eryri/Snowdonia. Written by professional meteorologists, the forecasts offer detailed, accessible guidance for both novice and experienced mountain users. They emphasize weather warnings and explain likely effects on people outdoors, including the possibility and probability of severe conditions.

Alongside regional forecasts, MWIS offers forecast videos, current and historic forecast information, synoptic charts, summit weather data and mountain forecast maps. Visitors can also view webcams showing conditions across UK mountains and find links to Scottish Avalanche Information Service reports and forecasts during the winter season. The service publishes a blog featuring forecaster insights and guest contributions from MWIS ambassadors. For those seeking to build their knowledge, MWIS runs one-day and weekend weather skills courses led by its meteorologists.
