The National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) is the leading professional society for Latino nurses in the United States. Established in 1975, NAHN has a strong presence with over 40 local chapters and a growing membership. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, NAHN is committed to promoting safe and quality healthcare delivery to Latino communities and individuals. NAHN strives to recognize excellence among Latino nurses, provide mentoring opportunities, and serve as a center of excellence for its members. One of their key goals is to advance the educational, professional, and leadership skills of Latino nurses, thereby creating a highly-qualified cadre of healthcare professionals. Additionally, NAHN works towards recruiting more Latinos into the nursing profession. Despite representing 18% of the US population, only less than 7% of the nursing workforce is of Latino descent. NAHN members actively advocate, educate, volunteer, and conduct programming in the Latino community to improve health outcomes, elevate literacy, and influence policy. By addressing the largest healthcare challenges facing Latinos, NAHN projects a unified voice for Hispanic health issues, targets disease states, reduces health disparities, and raises awareness for effective health policy and programs. They also promote the nursing profession to increase engagement and prepare nurses to lead change. NAHN welcomes support through donations to continue their mission of leading, promoting, and advocating for educational, professional, and leadership opportunities for Hispanic nurses and students.
