## Description

Nanodep is a research project focused on reducing nanoparticle emissions from combustion gases through improved filtration. Supported by a grant from Romania’s National Authority for Scientific Research, the project investigates dielectrophoresis—the movement of polarizable particles in a non-uniform electric field—as a way to capture nanoparticles suspended in gas. Its work combines mathematical modelling, numerical simulation and experimental research to understand how particle size and properties, gas conditions, electrode design and electrical settings affect capture performance.

The project uses simulations to guide the design and optimization of an experimental filter operating in an alternating electric field. In collaboration with ProAirClean, a waste-incineration company in Timișoara, the team planned to test the device on combustion emissions, collect particles and analyze their quantities, size classes and composition. The research also aims to refine its models and operating methods through systematic experimentation, and to develop a pre-feasibility assessment of the proposed filtration technology. Alongside the technical work, Nanodep seeks to inform public environmental policies and strategies for reducing nanoparticle pollution, with particular attention to emissions in Timișoara.
