CIC nanoGUNE is the Basque Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center that specializes in conducting world-class nanoscience research for the competitive growth of the Basque Country. Nanoscience is a field of science that focuses on studying matter at the nanoscale, which ranges from 0. 1 to 100 nanometers, or one-millionth of a millimeter.

At this scale, the behavior of matter is unique and scientists from diverse disciplines are studying various phenomena associated with it. nanoGUNE's research primarily revolves around Electronic/Spin phenomena and magnetism, optics at the nanoscale, nanoscale materials, and nanobioengineering. They are also involved in research related to health, energy, additive manufacturing, circular economy, automotive industry, food monitoring, and quantum technologies.
