About National Park Foundation

Description

The National Park Foundation is the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, dedicated to protecting and enhancing America's national parks for present and future generations. Established by Congress in 1967, the foundation works to generate private support and build strategic partnerships. It carries on a legacy that began over a century ago when private citizens took action to establish and protect our national parks.

As the only national charitable nonprofit directly supporting the National Park Service, the foundation plays a vital role in preserving our most magnificent and meaningful places. The history of our national parks is deeply rooted in the American idea of preserving and appreciating our natural landscapes. It all started with the Yosemite Grant signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1864, followed by the establishment of Yellowstone National Park by Congress in 1872.

Over the years, additional national parks and monuments were authorized due to community activism and lobbying efforts. In 1916, the National Park Service was created to manage and preserve these protected landscapes. The National Park Foundation's mission is to uphold the natural and cultural resources of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of present and future generations.

By supporting the foundation, you contribute to the ongoing preservation and conservation efforts of these national treasures. Join the foundation in safeguarding our parks and ensuring their beauty and significance endure
