## Description

The Natural Resource Education Foundation of New Jersey (NREF) is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to environmental education and the protection and restoration of Barnegat Bay’s natural habitats. NREF cares for the Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education, a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection property in Waretown, New Jersey, where visitors can explore coastal ecosystems and learn about local wildlife. The center’s 194-acre setting includes salt marshes, maritime forests, and freshwater ponds, serving as a natural laboratory for education, research, and conservation.

NREF offers immersive educational programs for people of all ages, educational resources, environmental research, and a summer camp for children. Its research and restoration work includes habitat and wildlife studies and shoreline restoration projects. The foundation also organizes public events and volunteer opportunities, and the Lighthouse Center is available for parties, conferences, and professional development events. Community members can support NREF by volunteering, becoming members, donating, hosting fundraisers, or purchasing apparel through its online store.
