## Description

NAV Portugal is a public business entity responsible for providing safe and efficient air navigation services in Portugal. It manages air traffic services across the Lisbon and Santa Maria Flight Information Regions, including air traffic control, flight information and alert services. Its control facilities support major airports throughout the country, including Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Cascais, Funchal, Porto Santo, Santa Maria, Ponta Delgada, Horta and Flores. The organisation operates the Lisbon Air Traffic Control Centre near Humberto Delgado Airport and the Santa Maria Oceanic Control Centre in the Azores.

NAV Portugal’s work also encompasses air traffic management support systems, aeronautical infrastructure and flight procedure design. It coordinates airport slots, allocating time slots at coordinated airports and facilitating schedules at facilitated airports. In May 2024, it implemented the Point Merge System as part of a major redesign of the Lisbon Terminal Area airspace, introducing new aircraft arrival and departure routes. Through these services and airspace initiatives, NAV Portugal supports the safe, orderly and efficient movement of aircraft across its areas of responsibility.
