## Description

The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 and incorporated in Ohio in 1972. It serves as a national voice for Black nurses and works to advance healthcare, professional development, educational opportunity, and improved health outcomes, especially for historically underserved communities. NBNA represents African American registered nurses, licensed vocational and practical nurses, nursing students, and retired nurses across the United States, the Eastern Caribbean, and Africa. Its network includes more than 100 chartered chapters in over 33 states.

The association offers membership and chapter resources, career listings, mentoring, webinars, conferences, and professional publications, including the Journal of the NBNA. Its initiatives address areas such as Black maternal health, global health, men’s health, oral health equity, and violence reduction. NBNA also supports nursing education through scholarships, awards, and programs such as the Mini Nurse Academy. Members and the public can engage with its policy resources, podcasts, events, and advocacy activities, including Black Nurses Day on Capitol Hill. Donations help fund its scholarships and national programs.
