## Description

The North Carolina Natural Heritage Program (NCNHP) is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the state's unique natural habitats and biodiversity. Operating under the Division of Land and Water Stewardship within the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, NCNHP maintains the official inventory of both rare species and significant natural communities across North Carolina. Their extensive database is enriched by data from staff surveys, scientific contributions, and published research.

In addition to conservation efforts, NCNHP offers engaging internship opportunities for students passionate about nature and research. This includes positions like the Field Biologist/GIS Mapping Internship and the Mountain Area Field Biologist Internship, designed to provide hands-on experience in environmental science.

Through activities like biodiversity mapping, public education, and collaboration with environmental partners, NCNHP plays a vital role in maintaining the ecological health of North Carolina's landscapes. With a commitment to conservation and accessibility, the program also provides tools and resources for researchers and the public to aid in understanding and preserving the state's natural heritage.
