National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce in Jamaica. Established in 2016 as part of The Strategic Public Sector Transformation Project, NCRA's main objective is to ensure compliance with established standards and regulations in order to provide safety and quality assurance to consumers. NCRA is responsible for various key regulatory functions.
These include the registration of pre-packaged food establishments, importers, and local manufacturers of goods that are subject to compulsory standards. They also conduct inspections of goods at ports of entry and in the domestic market, as well as verifying weighing and measuring devices used in trade. Additionally, NCRA undertakes petrol sampling and carries out compliance activities and enforcement actions when necessary.
With a commitment to partnership, NCRA works closely with businesses to achieve conformance with regulations. They aim to separate regulatory activities from standards setting bodies in compliance with international arrangements.
