NCTM, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, is the driving force behind the Mathematics Education Trust (MET). Established in 1976, MET channels the generosity of contributors to create and fund grants, awards, honors, and other projects that support the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning. MET grants, scholarships, and awards provide funds to support classroom teachers (Pre-K–grade 12) in improving classroom practices and increasing their mathematical knowledge.

These funding opportunities also extend to prospective teachers and NCTM's affiliates. The trust recognizes the lifetime achievement of leaders in mathematics education through the presentation of the NCTM Lifetime Achievement Awards, which celebrate a lifetime of dedication and impact in the field. The MET Board of Trustees, appointed by the NCTM president, oversees the trust's operations, investments, award programs, and fundraising efforts.

The board is composed of experienced professionals in the field, such as Laurie Boswell and Nora Ramirez, who each bring their unique expertise and commitment to mathematics education.
