## Description

Nederlandse Boekgeschiedenis is an educational resource devoted to the history of books and publishing in the Netherlands. Presented as a structured handbook, it traces developments from 1460 to the present, showing how the production, trade, and use of books changed across successive historical periods. Its coverage ranges from the early spread of printing to the book as a modern mass-produced and cultural product.

The site offers detailed material on the physical features of books, including type, paper, layout, illustration, decoration, and binding. It also examines the work and organisation of printers and publishers, author-publisher relationships, printing methods, collaboration, guilds, working conditions, copyright, reprints, and censorship. Further topics explore bookshops, booksellers, selection and distribution, advertising, payment, and international trade. Readers can also learn about education and literacy, reading communities and habits, libraries, private collecting, and the survival of books. Organised into period-based chapters and focused subtopics, the resource supports research and learning about the people, practices, and institutions that shaped Dutch book culture.
