Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting mountain tourism, climbing sports, and preserving the cultural heritage of Nepal's mountainous regions. Established in 1973, NMA is the only national alpine club authorized to issue climbing permits for 27 mountain peaks in Nepal. NMA offers a range of services and products to support mountain climbing and tourism. They contribute to policy-building, disaster preparedness, and environmental protection, striving to develop sustainable tourism policies. NMA also provides humanitarian support, including scholarships for children affected by mountain disasters and support for communities impacted by natural disasters. Committed to infrastructure development, NMA has constructed memorial parks, mountaineering schools, and mountain museums. They organize promotional events and actively participate in international forums to promote Nepalese mountain tourism globally. With the aim of exploring new peaks and destinations, NMA continually seeks to expand the options available for climbers. Under the leadership of President Nima Nuru Sherpa, NMA is dedicated to the development and promotion of mountain tourism in Nepal. They recognize the challenge posed by industrialization and global warming and emphasize the importance of working together to protect the mountain environment and communities. NMA plans to enhance the quantity and quality of human resources through trainings and collaborations with international partners such as UIAA and UAAA, aiming to establish Nepal as the global center for climbing sports.
