Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, a premier cultural institution, has made the difficult decision to conclude the New Bedford Folk Festival after its triumphant 25th anniversary event in 2022. Due to rising costs and increased expenses post-pandemic, the festival has become financially unsustainable. However, the festival's legacy is one to be celebrated.

What initially began as Summerfest, the New Bedford Folk Festival grew to become one of the most prominent folk music events in New England. The festival was produced for 20 years by founders Alan and Helene Korolenko, with support from various fiscal sponsors. In 2015, when the Korolenkos retired, the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center took over the organization to ensure the festival's continuation.

Over the course of its existence, the festival brought together hundreds of talented artists, attracted over 15,000 tourists, provided employment opportunities for numerous production professionals, and contributed a staggering $3 million to the local economy. The lively music filled downtown New Bedford, creating a vibrant atmosphere for festivalgoers and supporting downtown businesses. Zeiterion Performing Arts Center expresses deep gratitude to everyone involved in creating this incredible tradition, including the dedicated festival staff, the City of New Bedford, musicians, vendors, sponsors, donors, and the faithful attendees.
