## Description

The Newcomen Society is an international society dedicated to the study of the history of engineering and technology. Named after Thomas Newcomen, the inventor of the first practical working steam engine in 1712, the society aims to promote and encourage the exploration of engineering history from ancient times to the present day. The society accomplishes this through the dissemination of historical information via publications, lectures, archive conferences, and site visits. With diverse membership, the society covers a wide range of engineering topics, including civil, mechanical, structural, chemical, aeronautical, and marine engineering, among others. Members of the society enjoy a range of benefits, while non-members have access to the archive and can pay to download articles. The society continues to publish scholarly papers on various subjects and supports the collection and preservation of archival material and historical artifacts. Celebrating its centenary in 2020, The Newcomen Society remains committed to the advancement of engineering history.
