About
Description
The New Orleans Film Society (NOFS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a vibrant cinema culture in New Orleans. Since 1989, NOFS has produced the acclaimed New Orleans Film Festival, which is accredited by the Academy and qualifies films for the Oscars. NOFS's mission is to discover, nurture, and amplify diverse voices of filmmakers who tell the stories of our time.
They invest year-round in building a thriving film culture in the South, connecting dynamic filmmakers to career-advancing resources, and sharing transformative cinematic experiences with audiences. The New Orleans Film Festival is a highlight of the organization's work, attracting over 35,000 film lovers and showcasing 220+ films from around the world. The festival is unique as it is Oscar-qualifying in all three Academy-accredited categories.
It champions diversity and discovery, offering a platform for marginalized voices and ensuring that at least 50% of the films are directed by women or gender non-conforming filmmakers. NOFS also supports filmmakers through initiatives like Emerging Voices, a mentorship program for filmmakers of color, and the Southern Producers Lab. Beyond the festival, they offer year-round programming, including the popular French Film Festival, to engage film enthusiasts with a variety of high-quality films.
By becoming a member or making a donation, individuals can support the New Orleans Film Society in their mission to celebrate and elevate the art of filmmaking
