The Nez Perce Tribe is a federally recognized tribe in north-central Idaho, with a rich history and a strong commitment to preserving their culture and environment. With over 3,500 enrolled citizens and a reservation that spans about 770,000 acres, the Nez Perce Tribe is headquartered in Lapwai, ID. The tribe is governed by the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee (NPTEC), a nine-member elected executive committee.


Their primary goal is to protect the health and welfare of the Nez Perce people, which includes upholding treaty rights, tribal sovereignty, and preserving Nez Perce culture. The Nez Perce Tribe has a deep connection to the lands and waters of modern-day Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Montana. They continue to practice traditional lifeways such as fishing, hunting, gathering, and engaging in cultural ceremonies and celebrations.


Additionally, the tribe places great importance on language preservation, and their Nimipuutímt language program offers learning tools to ensure the language continues to thrive.
