## Description

The Great Plains Regional Herbarium Network serves as a vital resource for understanding the flora of the Great Plains region, encompassing herbaria from Canadian provinces including Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, as well as U.S. states such as Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. This collaborative initiative provides access to extensive collections, educational materials, and dynamic tools, catering to students, researchers, and plant enthusiasts alike.

Users can explore a central database that houses 24 million records from over 450 collections, including a diverse range of plant species native to the region’s varied ecosystems—from short grass prairies in the west to lush tall grass prairies in the east. The network also highlights the environmental challenges faced by these ecosystems due to agricultural expansion and industrial activities. Additionally, the Great Plains Herbaria offers features such as plant checklists and interactive learning tools to engage visitors and elevate their botanical knowledge.
