The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), operating as NHI Bahamas, is a Bahamian public health organization working to make quality healthcare more accessible and support progress toward universal health coverage. Since 2017, more than 160,000 Bahamians have joined its program, which connects beneficiaries with a growing network of doctors, private facilities, and laboratories across the islands.

NHI Bahamas’s initial coverage phase focuses on primary care, with covered services available without copayments or deductibles at the point of care. Benefits include doctor visits, annual physicals, immunizations, general laboratory work, sick visits, school physicals, cervical and prostate screenings, and other preventive care. The organization also promotes paediatric and maternity care, cancer prevention, wellness initiatives, and telehealth visits. Its digital services include an electronic health record initiative and the Patient Portal and Healow app.

NHIA supports beneficiaries through online and in-person enrollment, provider registration and listings, and public information on benefits and healthcare services.
