The NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme is a transformative initiative that aims to revolutionize healthcare through innovation. Started in 2015, the programme was born out of the need to support talented individuals who wanted to pursue a career in the NHS while also developing their own start-ups. Recognizing that the NHS was losing some of its brightest minds, the programme offers a solution that nurtures both their entrepreneurial aspirations and their commitment to the healthcare sector. Over the past five years, the programme has accepted over 700 Clinical Entrepreneurs, resulting in the creation of 327 life science start-ups and the raising of over £390 million in funding. Notably, 248 clinicians have returned to work in the NHS alongside their entrepreneurial endeavors. Recently, Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) was appointed as the program's delivery partner, collaborating with over 60 cross-sector partners, including NHS hospitals, multinational companies, research charities, and innovation networks. This collaboration ensures a robust support system for Clinical Entrepreneurs as they pursue their innovative ideas. Partnered with NHS England, ARU is proud to offer degree courses in nursing, midwifery, medicine, and health and medical science, fostering the next generation of healthcare innovators.
