## Description

Nijera Kori is a unique NGO in Bangladesh that focuses on alleviating poverty and destitution in rural areas. Founded in 1980 by a group of individuals who believed that the traditional NGO approach would only create dependency, Nijera Kori aims to address the root causes of poverty instead of offering temporary solutions. Initially, the organization provided relief aid, including food, shelter, and income-generating skills, to destitute rural women who migrated to Dhaka city after the 1974 famine. Today, Nijera Kori offers a wide range of services and programs. They organize and empower landless peasants, raise awareness, and provide capacity-building initiatives. They also engage in cultural initiatives and support network and advocacy efforts. The organization works with various partners, including the Nijera Kori Network Partners, and publishes resources such as annual reports, narrative reports, impact studies, and case studies. With a mission to bring about sustainable change and self-reliance, Nijera Kori remains committed to making a difference in the lives of rural communities in Bangladesh.
