## Description

Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council is a non-political, not-for-profit organisation founded in 1984. Working across seven Indian states, it supports people facing hardship regardless of caste, creed or religion, guided by the Sikh principle of Nishkam Sewa and the ideal of Sarbat da Bhala, or welfare for all. Its work focuses on education, health, housing and social assistance, with particular support for underprivileged communities, including Sikligar families.

Nishkam offers school and college scholarships, education assistance, career counselling, tuition, music and computer centres, a library, and stitching and typing training. Its Sikligar education and upliftment initiatives help children and families access learning and practical support. The organisation also provides medical services through its medical centre, including outpatient consultations, specialist care and diagnostic facilities, and runs a family assistance project. Housing support includes helping families make down-payments toward government-built homes. Through Mata Gujri Sukh Niwas, Nishkam provides a home for older people and children in need. Donations, volunteering and sponsorships help sustain its projects and reach vulnerable individuals and families.
