## Description

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is Nigeria’s government agency responsible for implementing the national Information Technology Policy and coordinating the country’s IT development. Established in 2001, it operates under the National Information Technology Development Act of 2007, which provides for planning, research, standards, monitoring, and regulation of IT activities and systems.

NITDA works to advance Nigeria’s digital economy by promoting digital literacy, technology talent, research, innovation, cybersecurity, inclusive access, and stronger policy frameworks. Its programmes include capacity building, scholarships, digital economy centres, IT hubs, e-learning facilities, and initiatives to support startups and local technology businesses.

The agency also provides regulatory and technical services. These include IT project clearance, software testing and certification, licensing of original equipment manufacturers, registration of IT service providers, .gov.ng domain registration, device type approval, and vulnerability assessment and penetration testing. NITDA publishes regulations, policies, standards, and guidelines, and offers service portals and forms for users. Through partnerships, interventions, and public programmes, it aims to strengthen digital skills, infrastructure, trust, and technology development across Nigeria.
