With a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1997, Niwasa began as an organization dedicated to the Aboriginal Head Start Program. Niwasa Hamilton is committed to preserving and revitalizing the Anishinaabemowin language and culture. Through their Language App, they provide a user-friendly platform for learning and practicing the language. Additionally, they operate a licensed child care facility and a Head Start Preschool, where children can benefit from a culturally inclusive and stimulating environment.

In collaboration with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board, Niwasa delivers the NYAWEH program, which aims to improve academic performance, credit accumulation, and graduation rates for Indigenous students.
