## Description

The New Jersey Flood Institute (NJFI) is the research and outreach arm of the New Jersey Coastal Coalition. It works to help communities across New Jersey understand and reduce the risks posed by flooding and extreme weather, with particular attention to Atlantic County and the state’s coastlines. Its approach combines education, research, assessment, and public outreach to support more resilient communities adapting to changing ecological conditions.

NJFI provides residents with storm-preparation guidance, encouraging households to keep essential supplies on hand and plan ahead for flooding and power outages. Its resources also connect communities with maps, tools, reports, and other information to help them prepare for future coastal flooding. In cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering, FEMA, and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the institute is developing tools to strengthen community resilience and reduce flood risks for taxpayers. Through its partnership with the New Jersey Coastal Coalition, NJFI aims to inform citizens and research practical solutions that help communities prepare for and mitigate the impacts of floods and severe weather.
