## Description

The New London Maritime Society (NLMS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich maritime history of New London, Connecticut. Established in 1983, the NLMS operates the Custom House Maritime Museum, housed in the historic 1833 U.S. Custom House, the oldest continuously operating custom house in the nation. This vibrant museum serves as a community hub, where locals come together for discussions, storytelling, and educational programs, celebrating the maritime connections that bind them. NLMS offers engaging exhibitions, lighthouse tours, and boat trips, highlighting important maritime landmarks such as the New London Harbor Light and Race Rock Light Station. The museum features changing exhibits and hosts popular events like the annual chowda'fest, making it a dynamic space for learning and recreation. Committed to cultural equity, NLMS encourages a diverse community engagement and aims to inspire stewardship of Long Island Sound and its historical significance. Visit the museum to explore New London's unique maritime heritage and participate in enriching activities throughout the year.
