## Description

The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) of Somalia is a public health regulator established under the Ministry of Health of the Federal Government of Somalia. Its mission is to help ensure that medicines and other health products available in the country are safe, effective, and of good quality. The authority oversees the manufacture, importation, distribution, and sale of medical products, addressing risks from substandard and counterfeit goods.

NMRA’s regulatory functions include registering health products, licensing businesses and other health product establishments, inspecting facilities, and conducting quality control and market surveillance. Its scope includes medicines, herbal medicines, food supplements, and medicated cosmetics. Through pharmacovigilance, the authority monitors and evaluates the safety of medicines used in Somalia.

The organization also provides digital services for pharmaceutical licensing, import permits, and drug registration, and publishes information through registers, resources, and public updates. By setting and enforcing regulatory requirements, NMRA aims to strengthen oversight of the pharmaceutical sector and protect the health of Somalia’s citizens.
