About
Description
The New Orleans African American Museum (NOAAM) is dedicated to preserving, presenting, and interpreting the rich history, art, culture, and contributions of African Americans in both New Orleans and the African Diaspora. As a Black institution, NOAAM aims to tell Black stories in their own voices, emphasizing the importance of diverse cultural narratives. At NOAAM, visitors can explore a variety of programs and exhibitions that showcase the profound impact of African Americans in New Orleans and beyond.
The museum's current exhibition, First Frame: The Preludial Exhibition of SEEING BLACK, features an extensive collection of black photography in New Orleans from 1840 and beyond. Through this exhibition, curated by Shana M. Griffin with Kalamu ya Selaam, Eric Waters, and Girard Mouton III, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the significant contributions of African Americans to American culture.
To support NOAAM's mission, individuals can make donations or become museum members. These contributions play a crucial role in helping NOAAM continue its growth and ensure that Black stories are told and celebrated by Black institutions. Plan your visit today and be a part of preserving and appreciating African American art and culture at NOAAM
