About

Description

North East Network (NEN) is a women's rights organization that has been working tirelessly for over 25 years to promote gender and environmental justice in Northeast India. NEN focuses on bridging the gap between rural and urban women and civil society organizations to address various development issues. The organization firmly believes in the potential and rights of every individual, regardless of their background or identity, to bring about collective change in society.

Established in 1995 in preparation for the Beijing World Conference on Women, NEN has emerged as a prominent platform for advocating women's human rights in both the Northeast region and across India. Combining activism with advocacy, NEN tackles critical gender issues through dialogue and dissemination from a liberal feminist perspective. The organization operates in three northeastern states – Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, with headquarters in Assam and branch offices in Shillong, Chizami, and Kohima.

NEN is also proud to be part of Lila. help, an initiative by the Global Network of Women's Shelters, providing a safe space and network for survivors of gender-based violence. With a strong legal standing and registration under various Indian government bodies, NEN is committed to creating a more just and equitable society
