# Bern Convention: Protecting Europe’s biodiversity

- **Primary alias:** `not-alone.eu`

## Description

NotAlone is a creative awareness campaign by the Bern Convention, developed in collaboration with Scienseed, that highlights how biodiversity can help cities address climate change. Its message is that people are not alone in this effort: nature can help make urban environments cooler, cleaner and more welcoming. The campaign explains urban heat islands, where asphalt, dark surfaces and human activity contribute to unusually high temperatures, and explores related impacts on air quality, health, weather, biodiversity and energy consumption.

Through educational website content, videos and true stories, #NotAlone presents practical examples of nature in cities, including green roofs, living walls and parks. It explains how trees cool the air, vegetation can buffer heavy rainfall and drought, and plants can capture pollutants. The campaign also highlights the benefits of nature for mental health and the role of some species in controlling pests. In addition, it introduces biodiversity and conservation efforts, including the Bern Convention’s work to protect European species and habitats and address invasive alien species.
