## Description

The Neurophysiology of Active Perception research group is an integral part of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition, and Behavior. Our primary objective is to uncover mechanistic explanations of cognitive phenomena through rigorous scientific research, focusing on the concept of active perception. This area encompasses how perceptual experiences are shaped by the perceiver’s engagement rather than merely the physical characteristics of stimuli.

We conduct experiments using advanced neurophysiological measurement techniques including MEG, ECoG, and EEG in humans, alongside invasive recordings in rat models. Our research specifically targets the somatosensory system, allowing us to delve deep into how attention, expectation, and sensory evidence are processed. In addition to basic science, we emphasize methodological advancements that aid in understanding spatial interactions within neural activity. Our group is dedicated to applying our findings to societal and clinical challenges, including previous work in brain-computer interfacing and ongoing projects that aim to develop innovative electrophysiological probes for enhanced neurobiological exploration.
