# NPPC - **Website:** - **Primary alias:** `nppc.health` ## Description The National Produce Prescription Collaborative (NPPC) is a member-led initiative established in 2019 by Wholesome Wave. Its member organizations are guided by a member-appointed steering committee. NPPC works to reduce the unequal burden of diet-related disease by advancing the integration of produce prescriptions into standard healthcare practice through federal and state policy. A produce prescription, or PRx, is a preventive service or medical treatment for eligible patients with diet-related health risks, food insecurity, or other documented barriers to nutritious food. Referred by a healthcare provider or health plan, participants can obtain qualifying fruits and vegetables through food retailers at low or no cost. NPPC’s goal is to make PRx a covered benefit across government-sponsored health plans, including Medicaid, CHIP, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Indian Health Service, Veterans Health Administration, and TRICARE. The collaborative also promotes provider referrals, eligibility screening, nutrition education, program evaluation, and stronger healthcare measures and billing infrastructure.
