## Description

NREC (Norwegian Research and Education Cloud) is a community cloud providing self-service infrastructure for Norway’s higher education and research sector. A collaboration project between the University of Bergen and the University of Oslo, with contributions from NeIC and Uninett, NREC has been in production since 2016. Its infrastructure is built on OpenStack and hosted in data centres in Bergen and Oslo, supporting high availability and redundancy.

NREC offers compute, storage and networking resources that users can provision as needed. Services include configurable virtual servers, scalable Ceph-based object storage, self-service block storage, DNS management and high-performance computing on dedicated hardware. Users can manage resources through a web dashboard, command-line interface or REST API, and can request customized solutions for specific requirements.

Eligible users at educational institutions can sign up with a FEIDE account. NREC supports research projects and internet services, as well as data storage, processing and computation. The platform is developed locally, uses open-source software and open standards, and provides service updates and support in Norwegian and English.
